Who We Are

TheGive5 is a project of The Alpha Foundation

The Alpha Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with one primary goal: to reduce human suffering throughout all cultures and communities. It is the vision of the Alpha Foundation to significantly impact humanitarian relief efforts and relief organizations around the world with financial assistance, donor management and communications.

Founded in 2005, the Alpha Foundation began as a funding initiative designed to assist humanitarian efforts on the Asian continent. It was soon obvious that we were just touching the tip of the iceberg of human suffering, and the desire to do more quickly took root. In September of 2007, the concept of TheGive5 was placed on the table, and the potential of such a bold project was startling. It was quickly decided: We begin the TheGive5.

TheGive5 begins.

Over the course of the last 12 months, TheGive5 team researched hundreds of humanitarian relief organizations to find those that were working to combat human suffering—and were poised to do more if they could secure additional funding. You can find out more on each agency here.

Brent's unique perspective on the immense needs in forgotten corners of the world was developed early in his life. Born and raised in West Africa, it was impossible for him to ignore the plight of the hungry, homeless, enslaved and hopeless living there. For over 15 years he witnessed great need along with the response of traditional humanitarian aid efforts.

Beginning his career as Director of Publications at an international non-profit organization, Robison went on to become one of the earliest adopters of desktop publishing technologies in the Midwest. Establishing a startup printing company in the early 1990’s, and gaining a reputation as a technology leader in the marketplace, Robison went on to build one of Southwest Missouri’s premiere printing companies, serving as Vice President of Operations and then as President.

Robison’s creative direction moved him to start Robison Creative Studios, a creative firm specializing in the promotion and technology needs of the non-profit sector. Currently located in Ozark, Missouri, this multi-disciplinary firm covers creative services, brand and identity planning, campaign development, video production, online advertising placement and a host of Internet services.

Realizing the immense need of the non-profit sector in the areas of fund-raising and donor management, Robison launched The Alpha Foundation in 2005 in an effort to bring donors and organizations together to accomplish funding initiatives in some of the neediest areas of the world.  As the needs continued, it became apparent that the traditional process of donor development was severely lacking in relevance, capability and overall effectiveness. Robison considers TheGive5 initiative the beginning of a permanent solution to a number of challenges faced by organizations worldwide.

Carrie Young has served on the Board of Directors of the Alpha Foundation since its launch in 2005. Raised and educated in Nigeria, West Africa, Carrie brings a unique international perspective to the Alpha Foundation. With first-hand in-country experience, and a personal familiarity with the plight and suffering that encompasses a majority of the third world, Carrie’s ability to recognize genuine need and determine proactive solutions is invaluable in an organization like The Alpha Foundation.

Young served with the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization in West Africa, with primary responsibilities assisting the Regional Food Scientists with all administration functions. This office was charged with developing cost-effective weaning foods from locally-available raw materials - working to alleviate the challenges of infant malnutrition in developing countries. Carrie has also held numerous positions in Public Relations, Executive Management, Human Resources and organizational administration within a variety of companies with international operations. Experience in industries such as oilfield services, food manufacturing, executive resourcing, advertising, marketing, all gave her a platform for developing a unique and well-rounded personal skill set.

Young also served as Vice President of Young’s Distributing, an import-export company with an emphasis on exotic marble and porcelain tile and exclusive fixtures. Her responsibililities included developing new international resources for products as well as creating marketing strategies for the imported goods.

Young also served six years on the Board of Directors for Mountain Country Habitat for Humanity. During her tenure on the board, two of those years as President, she was involved with all aspects of growing a non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing for families unable to enjoy home ownership through traditional means. Fund raising, major event organization, training, budgeting, finance, volunteer coordination and family training were all part of her portfolio during her time with this very active Habitat for Humanity Affiliate.

She is presently Business Administrator of Robison Creative Studios, a creative firm specializing in the promotion and technology needs of the non-profit sector. Located in Ozark, Missouri, this multi-disciplinary firm covers creative services, brand and identity planning, campaign development, video production, online advertising placement and a host of Internet services. In addition, Carrie manages Account Services for a variety of clients both domestic and international.
